Sharepoint Server
February 8th, 2011SharePoint Server Primer And Main Features
SharePoint Server is useful when people want to collaborate and work together as a team. It is a Microsoft product with extensive applications within a business, including platforms for building sites like intranets & extranets, social networking sites and internet websites. It has document management and MS Office integration capabilities, and a community collaboration feature.
Robust developer platforms allow for easy application development. This is one area where there has been a massive improvement in the latest version SharePoint 2010 as compared to the one before MOSS 2007. The new version has many additional features and tools, and makes it a lot easier for everyone from users to IT staff and developers.
Site access is now possible not only through a browser, but also via mobile devices and from inside MS Office software. Also, sites can be built out-of-the-box regardless of programming or design skills or lack thereof. Sites and documents can be updated offline by team members and synchronized after reconnection.
SharePoint Server can be categorized into the following main components – Sites & Communities, Insights & Composites, and Search & Content. The first two have been looked at in brief above. Insight manages information sharing and access to reports, databases and application data, while Composites creates Do it Yourself Business solutions that don’t require coding.
Search obviously doesn’t need an explanation and Content in this case refers to content management which includes document sorting and facilitation for use of MS Office. There really isn’t any question mark regarding the massive benefits and powerful features of this product. The only thing that needs answering is the best route for implantation.
Obviously, one way is to set it up in house and have the requisite IT staff to manage everything. A more cost-effective and easier way would be to avail of SharePoint Server hosting from a provider such as Apps4Rent. These hosted solutions are light years ahead of anything similar that most medium to large scale companies have been able to set up in-house.
So customers opting for a hosted solution can and should expect powerful machines offering extreme security with SSL, firewalls and SAS 70 Datacenters. Many also offer granular daily backups and 24 hour support every single day is the norm. So is having a provider who is a Microsoft Certified Partner.
Many of the features of this product, such as code free do-it-yourself business solutions, document collaboration and ability to build intranets and extranets aren’t new innovations. But what is new is that Microsoft chose to put all these and other tools and platforms into a single product. An IT department which has just got hold of SharePoint Server is akin to children who have just been handed the keys to a truck filled with Christmas gifts.

Home generators are available in two types: portable and stationery or standby generators. The size and type of generator depends on the requirement of a house owner. Some electrical equipment or appliances like refrigerators and air conditioners consume two or three times their normal wattage power to start. Never place the cords under the rugs or the carpet where it can get damaged. The electric load on the receptacles must be balanced. This is the reason they have recently become so popular and thousands of people have started using them, reports show that someone who uses a magnetic generator in their home will save 50%-100% on their energy bills.
