Detox Lung
In single celled bacteria and various mini organisms, the respiration process of gas exchange will happen through diffusion. In bigger organisms, however, this is impossible, because a minute amount of cells in large bodies are located near by the surface for diffusion to take place. Two main changes made it possible for all bodies to achieve multicellularity. One being an efficient circulatory system to transport gases back and forth between all tissues in the body. The other is a large breathing system. The breathing system centralizes the responsibility of collecting oxygen from the atmosphere and bringing it into the body, where it will be moved very fast to tissues through the circulatory system.
Lungs also have a few other jobs that do not include the respiratory function. One main job for the lungs is to protect the heart. Our lungs cover the heart and act as a protective layer to soften any hit that the heart might have to take. Without this protection, simply bumping into someone could possibly be fatal. Another responsibility of the lungs is to influence the concentration of biologically active drugs and other chemicals which are used in medicine. Filtering out blood clots found in the systemic veins is another protection enforced by your lungs.
